High Temp Lab Metal 14 oz & 1 Pint Solvent (LQ#40)

High Temp Lab Metal 14 oz & 1 Pint Solvent

High Temp Lab Metal

Permanent repair compound – withstands 1000ºF. Hi-Temp Lab-metal is ready-to-use right from the can. Developed for difficult repairs subject to excessive heat, Hi-Temp Lab-metal withstands temperatures as high as 1000ºF

Lab-metal may be thinned to paint consistency with Lab-Solvent, and brushed or sprayed on practically any surface to provide a rustproof, water-resistant, hard metal finish. Use the Lab-Solvent to thin Lab-Metal, clean the application surface and create a glass-smooth surface to minimize sanding. (Add Lab-solvent to extend storage-time). Store in cool place.

Easy to Use

Hi-Temp Lab-metal is applied directly from the can with a putty knife or similar tool. No two-component mixing or measuring is necessary. Many applications may be made from a single can. After each use, to prevent Hi-Temp Lab-metal from hardening in the can, pour Lab-solvent over the remaining Hi-Temp Lab-metal contents, then cover tightly. (Stir the solvent into the Hi-Temp Lab-metal before using again). Lab-solvent is also used to thin Hi-Temp Lab-metal for brush-on applications.  Hi-Temp Labmetal must be heat hardened by exposing it to a temperature of 425ºF for one hour.

Application

Hi-Temp Lab-metal may be applied with a putty knife, spatula, trowel, caulking gun, or rubber squeegee. When filling deep holes or cavities, the putty should be applied in thin layers, less than 1/4″ thick. Allow each layer to dry for at least 24 hours. Dry time may be accelerated with force curing, infrared lamps. This depends on air temp, type of metal.

To apply Hi-Temp Lab-metal with a paint brush, it must be thinned to paint consistency with Lab-solvent, then applied with light brush strokes; not worked over as with paint. Dipping the brush into Lab-solvent periodically will keep the bristles free and prevent clogging.

Depth of application determines drying time; hardening occurs as the diluent evaporates. The application must air dry for at least 24 hours, or until the product has hardened to a metal state.

In order for Hi-Temp Lab-metal to completely harden after a 24 hour air dry time, it must be exposed to a minimum temperature of 425ºF for a period of at least one hour depending on thickness of application. (The curing process may be achieved by a more gradual “heat-up”, as in the repair of an industrial oven or exhaust. In this case, as the oven is heating, the Hi-Temp Lab-metal repair is curing.)

Hi-Temp Lab-metal is recommended where original Lab-metal may not withstand the extreme heat. Originally developed due to requests from the foundry industry, industries such as metalworking, powder coating, welding, fabricating, heating, construction, auto repair, die casting, mold refinishing, and sheet metal production and finishing have found uses for Hi-Temp Lab-metal. It successfully repairs:

Durability
Hi-Temp Lab-metal adheres to most metals. Once hardened, it can be machined, ground, filed, and sanded. Buffed to a satin smooth finish, Hi-Temp Lab-metal leaves an undetectable repair. Hi-Temp Lab-metal is impervious to the attack of rust, rot, and mildew. It is not affected by varying climatic conditions, and the hardened metal can be painted over — even powder-coated.

Treated Spiral Sewn Buffing Wheel

Cut and colour faster than with regular buffs. Lasts longer than regular buffs.

These new buffs are specially treated to give longer life than standard buffs. This treatment makes them much harder than regular cotton buffs, which allows the user to exert more pressure onto the wheel and gets the job done faster. Use with any compound

Denim Buffing Wheel

Our newest buffing wheel, the denim buffing wheel, is soft enough for any buffing application that calls for cotton wheels, but, because of the sturdy denim construction, it lasts much, much longer than a cotton buff.

The faces of these wheels are pre-raked to accept compound immediately.

Use With Any Compound to cut or colour your metal.

Domet Flannel Wheel

Domet flannel is very the softest available material, and this wheel is loosely stitched, so the layers of cloth flare out to give a wide angle ultra smooth polishing surface.

Generally used with the BLUE or RED compound, this wheel can be used on the most delicate items such as silver and gold plate.

This wheel should not be contaminated with any other compound.

Canton Flannel Wheel

Use in the final stage of buffing to colour very thin plated surfaces.

Canton Flannel is very soft, and this wheel is loosely stitched, so the layers of cloth flare out to give a wide angle ultra smooth polishing surface.

Generally used with the BLUE or RED compound, this wheel can be used on the most delicate items such as silver and gold plate.

This wheel should not be contaminated with any other compound.

Check out the Standard wheel and compound buffing guide for more information on Standard compounds and buffing wheels

Loose Cotton Wheel

Gets into cracks and crevices better than Spiral Sewn Cotton Wheels.
The main purpose of a loose cotton wheel is to polish and cut in a similar manner to the Spiral sewn wheel, except that this wheel, not being tightly stitched together, will ‘mush’ or collapse, allowing the cotton to get into awkward places more easily. If you have an object with fine details and awkward crevices, then this is the wheel to use.
Because you will be unable to exert pressure which slows down other harder wheels, you should consider putting LARGER loose cotton wheels on your buffer. This will increase the surface speed, improving the overall finish and the time involved.

Check out the Standard wheel and compound buffing guide for more information on Standard compounds and buffing wheels

For example, on a 1/4hp motor, @ 3450rpm, you can safely put up an 8″ wheel x 1/4″ thick. On a 1/3rd hp motor, 10″ x 1/2″ thick, on 1/2hp motor 8″ x 1″ thick.

3/4 hp motor can carry several 12″ wheels.

Use with any compound.
